My friend’s mom worked as a health aid of some sort to a drug addicted man with mental health disorders and *possibly some felonies; my memory is failing me. Anyway, the mother left her husband (though he was a raging alcoholic. Constantly, constantly drunk) for this patient and basically cut off contact to her daughters. She gave their house (the daughters are all moved out now) to her sister. My friend went there one day to try to get her belongings that she’d left there, and the house was in horrid condition. The family had bottles and containers of pee throughout, they had rotting food, stains everywhere, and what was possibly human feces on the floor. They have dogs as well that they let relieve themselves inside. I can’t remember all the details, but this story reminded me of that.

I'm a social worker. I used to work with homeless adults and now I work with teens in a high school. This tiktok made me sick when I saw it. It is our job to model professionalism and healthy boundaries for our clients and this social worker clearly did not do this. A problem that we have in our field (at least in California where I live) is the amount of people that call themselves "social workers" without proper training. I have a masters degree in Social Work as well as a bachelors degree. There are hours of internships, trainings, and ethical seminars that we go through to be able to become social workers. In CA, you can be in a job with the title "social worker" without a degree in social work and without the ethical guidelines that the National Association of Social Workers endorses. We saw the same issue in the Trials of Gabriel Fernandez Netflix docuseries (only one social worker in the group of 4 had a degree in social work). Sorry for this long and venting comment lol, this is has just been an issue in my field for such a long time and its exhausting.
